Naturalizing Normativity: Representations and Misrepresentations

This PhD thesis will have three related but different levels: metatheory, theory, and practice. The first (metatheory) part will be a philosophy of science flavored critique of Anthony Chemero's vision of how cognitive science should do research. In his book "Radical Embodied Cognitive Science" (Chemero, 2009) he proposes an anti-representational approach which uses the tools of dynamical systems with Gibson's ecological psychology (Gibson, 1979) as the background theory which provides constraints in order to restrict the immense expressive powers of dynamical systems. I will argue that such a method will at best produce various disconnected models of surface phenomena and thus should not be taken as the method of a mature science
